I will set the record straight about working at Tinsley House Immigration Removal Centre.
This is something I am very passionate about and get really pissed off when Tinsley House receives bad press, usually from people or organisations with little or no knowledge about Tinsley.
Important things about this blog. No real names will ever be used(we are not allowed to speak with the press, so I not know how this will be received by my employer!) Only detainees whose names are already in the public domain will be used. There are numerous web sites, and other so called helping groups dedicated to helping them . Its those kind of people that know nothing about the work that actually happens at Tinsley House.
Over the coming months this blog will hopefully go some way to educating those morons and the the likes of anyone who might show some interest.
I will add some history about Tinsley House and the other IRC's(Immigration removal centres) around the country known as the detention estate.
If you need answers before this is completed feel free to email me chroma69@hotmail.com
More soon.
Have a nice day.

Setting The Record Straight!!
Tinsley House
Background to Tinsley House
Background
Tinsley House, located on the perimeter of Gatwick Airport, was established in May 1996. It has a capacity to hold 135 people at any one time, a mixture of single males, females and family groups. Around 11,000 detainees currently go through the centre each year. In 2001, it became the first centre to hold families.
The private security firm Global Solutions Ltd is contracted by the immigration service to run Tinsley House. They manage the day-to-day running of the centre and, as such, do not have any say on who is detained or for how long they stay in detention.I n 1999, the Government introduced the Immigration and Asylum Act, which had significant consequences for immigration detention in the UK. From being a detention centre with a relatively stable population, Tinsley House was re-designated a ‘Removal Centre’ with a more transient population.
Facilities
Detainees are not allowed out of Tinsley House and personal possessions within the Centre are restricted. Although visits are allowed daily, they are confined to a communal room, and are not held in private. Under Government rules, detention centres have to provide some meaningful activity. Tinsley House has library, computer room, a well equipped weights room, a large indoor sports hall, a large outside sports area, optional English lessons and arts and crafts sessions, as well as the use of television and video. Tinsley House have a dedicated staff team who help and support the detainees. A religious who cater for the pastoral, spiritual and cultural needs of the detainee population. There are daily religious services and ministers from all faiths visit the centre.
The centre has a medical centre and psychological services are provided by a visiting consultant clinical psychologist and a psychotherapist from Horsham hospital.
